Gippsland Vehicle Collection, Maffra, Victoria (VIC)

The museum has more than 160 special cars, motorbikes, machinery, historic vehicles and auto memorabilia on display. Their feature exhibits change three times a year on the second Sundays of March, July and November and launch with a display day where everyone is invited to bring along their special vehicles to show in the Museum grounds.

The motor museum in housed in “The Maffra Shed” is an old vegetable de-hydrating factory built during WW2. The open-trussed building of around 2200 Square Metres, and features Audio-Visual facilities, BBQs and meeting areas are provided for the use of community groups and car-clubs visiting the museum as part of their weekend leisure events.

The items on display reflect motoring and transport from horse drawn carriages up to modern racers. Maffra has long been a strong motoring centre and boasts a local hillclimb track run by the ‘Maffra & District Car Club’, and a Motocross track run by the Maffra Sale Motorcycle Club.

They also have over 3370 die-cast models.

Rick and Kathy Howe have been to this museum and this is what they have to say about the museum: “This is a delightful local collection that relies on the loan of vehicles from an apparently extensive group of supporters and on the commitment of a number of volunteers. The collection is housed in an older warehouse that is entirely suitable for the purpose and continues to undergo restoration and improvement as time goes on. The collection features themed exhibitions that change two to three times a year so the vehicles on display change regularly.
